STITCH TALK

WHY I CROSS STITCH

BY

IVY WOOD

Cross stitching has been like therapy for me. I use it to relax and set my  mind free. I no longer feel guilty about sitting in front of the television  after a long day at work  when I pick up the needle and accomplish even  more during the day.

I have found the meaning of life contained in the simple, basic instructions  of cross stitcbing: FIND YOUR CENTER. What a great beginning for  ANY project you start in life.

BIND YOUR LOOSE ENDS BEFORE STARTINGto keep from  unraveling. KEEP AN EVEN TENSION. At least Ive learned to be in touch  with my emotions without letting them unconsciously control my actions.  IT IS BEST NOT TO KNOT YOUR THREAD. My chiropractor gives me the  same advice for $20 a crack. NOW AND THEN, DROP AND DANGLE TO  UNWIND. For me this has become a daily NECESSITY most easily accomplished  by cross stitching. COMPLETE FIRST HALF OF EACH STITCH IN A ROW.  Its much like following the yellow brick road. If you choose to follow  the path of Self-Growth and Discovery, a beautiful design always emerges.

THIS COULD APPLY TO ANYTHING THAT WE DO. MOST NEEDLEWORK SHOULD BE THERAPY  FOR US. WHY DO IT, IF IT IS NOT? ENJOY WHAT YOU DO AND DO IT TO THE BEST OF YOUR  ABILITY.
